Epipremnum Cebu Blue Pothos 12cm Pot House Plant

£7.99

Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Cebu Blue’, commonly known as Cebu Blue Pothos, is a stunning tropical vining plant prized for its silvery-blue, elongated leaves. This fast-growing, easy-care plant can be grown as a trailing vine or trained to climb, developing fenestrated (split) leaves in maturity. Below is a detailed care guide to help your Cebu Blue Pothos thrive.

Light Requirements

  • Bright, Indirect Light is Best:

    • Thrives in bright, indirect light, which enhances its silvery-blue leaf colour.
    • Place near an east- or north-facing window for optimal growth.
  • Tolerates Low Light:

    • Cebu Blue can survive in lower light conditions, but its growth may slow, and leaves may become darker green rather than silvery blue.
    • If growing in low light, consider using a grow light to maintain healthy foliage.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight:

    • Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, causing browning and crisping.
    • If placing in a south- or west-facing window, use sheer curtains to filter intense sunlight.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Ideal Temperature Range:

    • Prefers warm temperatures between 18–30°C (65–85°F).
    • Not frost-tolerant—avoid exposure to temperatures below 12°C (54°F).
  • Humidity Needs:

    • Cebu Blue thrives in moderate to high humidity (50–80%).
    • If your home is dry, boost humidity by:
      ✅ Using a humidifier
✅ Placing on a pebble tray with water
✅ Grouping with other plants to create a microclimate
  • Avoid Cold Drafts & Sudden Temperature Changes:

    • Keep away from air conditioning vents, radiators, and open windows in winter, as sudden changes may cause leaf curling or browning.

Watering

  • Keep Soil Slightly Moist but Not Soggy:

    • Cebu Blue prefers a consistent watering schedule—allow the top 3–5 cm (1–2 inches) of soil to dry out between waterings.
  • Watering Frequency:

    • Spring & Summer (Active Growth): Water once a week, depending on humidity levels.
    • Autumn & Winter (Dormant Period): Reduce watering to every 10–14 days.
  • How to Water:

    • Water evenly around the plant until excess drains from the bottom.
    • Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water—always empty the saucer.
    • Use filtered, rainwater, or distilled water, as tap water with high fluoride can cause leaf tip browning.
  • Signs of Overwatering:

    • Yellowing leaves
    • Soft, mushy stems
    • Fungal growth on soil surface
  • Signs of Underwatering:

    • Drooping or curling leaves
    • Brown, crispy edges

Soil and Potting

  • Well-Draining, Light Soil:

    • Use a light, airy, well-draining mix to prevent water retention. A good blend includes:
      • 50% potting soil
      • 30% perlite or pumice (for drainage)
      • 20% orchid bark or coconut coir (for moisture retention)
  • Choosing the Right Pot:

    • Use a terra cotta or ceramic pot with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture.
    • Avoid plastic pots, which retain too much water.
  • Repotting:

    • Repot every 1–2 years, or when roots become crowded and grow out of the pot.
    • Best done in spring or early summer when the plant is actively growing.

Fertilising

  • Regular Feeding Encourages Healthy Growth:

    • Feed every 4–6 weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser (e.g., 10-10-10 or 20-20-20) during the growing season.
  • Fertiliser Schedule:

    • Spring & Summer: Apply fertiliser every 4–6 weeks.
    • Autumn & Winter: Reduce feeding to once every 8 weeks, or stop fertilising.
  • Avoid Over-Fertilising:

    • Too much fertiliser can cause salt build-up, leading to leaf tip browning.
    • Flush the soil with clean water every few months to prevent excess salts.

Growth and Maintenance

  • Fast-Growing Vine with Climbing Potential:

    • Cebu Blue can trail from a hanging basket or climb up a moss pole or trellis.
    • When allowed to climb, it may develop larger, fenestrated leaves, similar to a Monstera.
  • Encouraging Bushy Growth:

    • Prune leggy vines to encourage fuller growth.
    • Pinch off long stems to promote branching and denser foliage.
  • Leaf Cleaning:

    • Dust buildup can block light absorption and slow growth.
    • Wipe leaves with a damp cloth every few weeks to keep them clean.
  • Pruning:

    • Trim yellow or brown leaves with sterilised scissors.
    • If vines become too long, trim them just above a node to encourage new shoots.

Pests and Diseases

  • Common Pests:

    • Cebu Blue is resistant to most pests, but may occasionally attract:
      • Spider mites (fine webbing, yellow spots)
      • Mealybugs (white, cotton-like masses)
      • Thrips & aphids (tiny crawling insects)

    Treatment:

    • Wipe affected areas with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
    • Spray with a mild soapy water solution if infestation persists.
  • Common Diseases:

    • Root rot (from overwatering) – Ensure proper soil drainage.
    • Fungal leaf spot – Improve air circulation and avoid wetting leaves excessively.

Propagation

Cebu Blue is easily propagated using stem cuttings.

How to Propagate via Stem Cuttings:

  1. Choose a healthy vine with at least two nodes.

  2. Cut just below a node using sterilised scissors.

  3. Place in:

    • Water: Roots develop in 2–4 weeks. Transfer to soil once roots are 5 cm (2 inches) long.
    • Moist soil: Plant directly in moist soil; keep slightly damp until new growth appears.
  4. Once rooted, treat as a mature plant.

Toxicity

  • Mildly Toxic to Pets & Humans:
    • Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mild irritation, vomiting, or swelling if ingested.
    • Keep away from cats, dogs, and small children.
