Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’ is a striking and statuesque tropical plant admired for its bold presence, luxurious leaf texture, and rich colour contrast. A hybrid variety thought to originate from Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula, this cultivar lives up to its regal name with large, shield-like leaves that have a velvety, dark green surface and dramatic, deep purple undersides. The leaf margins are gently scalloped, and the strong, upright petioles give the plant a commanding architectural form, making it ideal for spacious interiors, conservatories, or covered patios. Regal Shields grows steadily in warm, humid conditions and brings a bold, tropical flair to any space. While it prefers some attention to watering and humidity, it’s more forgiving than many Alocasias, making it a great statement plant for intermediate plant lovers.
Indoors: Prefers bright, indirect light. A spot near an east- or north-facing window is ideal.
Direct sun: Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch or fade the leaves.
Low light: Tolerated, but growth will slow and leaf size may reduce.
Ideal temperature: 18–27°C (65–80°F)
Minimum temperature: Keep above 15°C (59°F); avoid exposure to cold draughts or temperature fluctuations.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Use a humidifier or pebble tray in dry environments.
Watering frequency: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil is dry. Keep the soil moist but never soggy.
Winter care: Reduce watering during colder months as the plant may enter a rest period.
Water tip: Use filtered or rainwater to prevent mineral build-up on leaves.
Soil type: Rich, well-draining mix — ideal blend includes houseplant compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or sphagnum moss.
pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (5.5–6.5)
Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Use a stable, heavy pot to support tall foliage.
Growing season (spring–summer): Feed every 4–6 weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength.
Autumn–winter: Reduce feeding or pause entirely during dormancy.
Pruning: Remove yellowing, damaged, or old leaves at the base with sterile tools.
Leaf care: Wipe gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and highlight the velvety texture.
Growth habit: Upright and clumping — forms a central crown of large, majestic leaves.
By division or corms: Best propagated during repotting. Look for offsets or small corms in the root zone.
Note: Propagation is slow and best suited to experienced growers.
Common pests: Spider mites, thrips, mealybugs, and aphids — especially in low humidity.
Symptoms: Curling leaves, sticky residue, yellow patches, or webbing.
Treatment: Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap. Isolate affected plants and improve humidity and airflow.
Common issues:
Leaf edge browning: Usually due to low humidity or underwatering.
Drooping or wilting: Often caused by overwatering, root rot, or sudden temperature drops.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Contains calcium oxalates which may cause irritation.
Precaution: Keep out of reach of pets and small children.
A bold, regal foliage plant perfect for statement pots, bright rooms, and tropical groupings.
Combines beautifully with other large-leaved exotics like Philodendron ‘Congo’, Strelitzia nicolai, or Calathea orbifolia.
Ideal for plant lovers looking to add height, drama, and contrast to their indoor jungle.
Can also thrive on covered patios or balconies in warm months — just protect from strong sun and wind.
With proper care, Regal Shields rewards you with slow, steady growth and deeply luxurious foliage.
