With Plants for all Seasons's Live Delivery Guarantee, you can shop with complete peace of mind, knowing that your green investments are protected from our nursery to your doorstep.
Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. This variation is natural, given that each plant is unique and subject to seasonal growth changes.
At Plants for all Seasons, we recognise the critical role our courier partners play in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your plants. Alocasia lauterbachiana ‘Variegata’, commonly known as the Variegated Purple Sword, is a rare and dramatic tropical houseplant prized for its sword-shaped, wavy-edged foliage and stunning cream, white, and pale green variegation splashed across deep green to purplish leaves. Native to Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea, the species is already eye-catching for its tall, upright habit and burgundy-purple undersides — but the variegated form takes it to the next level, offering collectors and plant lovers a highly architectural centrepiece plant with bold contrast and texture. The plant’s stately form, striking variegation, and colour contrast between the leaf tops and undersides make it ideal for well-lit interiors or as a showpiece in a bright conservatory. Like most Alocasias, it appreciates warmth, humidity, and consistent care — but with the right conditions, Alocasia lauterbachiana ‘Variegata’ is a standout addition to any indoor jungle.
Indoors: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct morning sun is fine, but avoid harsh afternoon rays.
Too much sun: May cause leaf scorching or fading of variegation.
Too little light: Slows growth and reduces contrast in variegation.
Ideal temperature: 18–28°C (65–82°F)
Minimum temperature: Keep above 15°C (59°F); avoid cold draughts
Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60–80%). Ideal for bathrooms, greenhouses, or with a humidifier.
Watering frequency: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil is dry. Keep evenly moist but never soggy.
Water tip: Use lukewarm, filtered water when possible to prevent mineral spotting.
Dormancy: May slow or stop growing in winter — reduce watering accordingly.
Soil type: Light, airy, and well-draining. Use an aroid mix: houseplant compost blended with perlite, bark, and coco coir.
pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (5.5–7.0)
Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Choose a tall, stable pot to support vertical growth.
Growing season (spring–summer): Feed every 4–6 weeks with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser or a foliage-boosting formula.
Autumn–winter: Stop or reduce feeding as growth slows.
Pruning: Remove old, yellowing, or damaged leaves at the base with clean snips.
Leaf care: Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their glossy finish.
Growth habit: Upright and clump-forming; will develop tall stems over time.
Division: Best propagated by dividing rhizomes or offsets during repotting.
Not suitable for propagation by stem or leaf cuttings.
Common pests: Spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, and thrips — especially in dry air.
Symptoms: Yellowing leaves, spots, curling, or visible insects.
Treatment: Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap and increase humidity and airflow.
Common issues:
Leaf browning or crisping: Usually due to low humidity or underwatering.
Drooping or soft stems: Often caused by overwatering or poor drainage.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Can cause oral irritation or nausea.
Precaution: Best kept away from pets and children.
A show-stopping tropical with rare variegation and deep purple tones underneath.
Perfect for plant collectors, design-conscious interiors, or luxury displays.
Pairs beautifully with other statement foliage plants like Philodendron ‘White Knight’, Monstera Thai Constellation, or Alocasia ‘Frydek Variegata’.
Responds well to attentive care and high humidity — ideal for experienced or enthusiastic plant owners.
