Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. Hoya verticillata ‘Lampung’ is a rare and stunning variety of Hoya verticillata, originating from Lampung, Indonesia. Known for its striking leaves and fragrant flowers, this species is an excellent addition to any Hoya collection. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family and thrives in warm, humid environments.
The foliage of Hoya verticillata ‘Lampung’ is one of its most attractive features. The leaves are thick, slightly glossy, and typically oval or lanceolate in shape. They often exhibit striking venation, with a prominent midrib and a lighter green or silver-speckled pattern. The leaves’ semi-succulent nature allows them to store moisture, making the plant relatively drought-tolerant.
The flowers appear in umbels and are small, star-shaped, and waxy. They are typically white or pale yellow, often with a reddish-pink centre. The blooms are highly fragrant, especially in the evening, and produce nectar. Flowering occurs more frequently when the plant is mature and receives the right care.
This species grows as a vining epiphyte, using tendrils to climb or trail. It is well-suited for hanging baskets, trellises, or moss poles. Growth is moderate, but it accelerates in warm, humid conditions. With proper support, it can develop into an impressive trailing or climbing plant.
Hoya verticillata ‘Lampung’ thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may slow growth and reduce flowering. If grown indoors, an east- or west-facing window is ideal. The plant can tolerate some gentle morning sun but should be protected from strong afternoon rays.
This plant prefers temperatures between 18–30°C (65–86°F). It is not frost-tolerant and should always be kept above 10°C (50°F). High humidity (60% or more) encourages healthy growth and flowering. If indoor air is dry, misting the plant or using a humidifier can help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Since the plant stores some moisture in its leaves, it is more tolerant of underwatering than overwatering. Reduce watering during winter when growth slows. Always use room-temperature, non-chlorinated water to avoid shocking the roots.
A well-draining, aerated mix is crucial. A good soil blend consists of orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir or peat moss, and a small amount of charcoal for drainage. This mix ensures oxygen reaches the roots while preventing excess moisture retention, reducing the risk of root rot.
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-4 weeks. A fertiliser with a higher phosphorus content can help encourage blooming. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
Repot the plant every 2-3 years or when the roots outgrow the pot. Use a container with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Terracotta pots are excellent for this species as they allow excess moisture to evaporate.
Pruning helps shape the plant and encourage bushier growth. Avoid cutting off flower peduncles, as Hoyas bloom repeatedly from the same nodes. Cleaning the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth removes dust and improves photosynthesis.
Propagation is best done via stem cuttings. Cuttings should have at least one node and can be rooted in water, sphagnum moss, or a well-draining soil mix. Rooting typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on humidity and temperature.
Yellowing leaves often indicate overwatering, while wrinkled leaves may suggest underwatering or low humidity. If the plant fails to flower, it may not be receiving enough light or nutrients. Root rot can occur if the soil remains too wet, so ensuring proper drainage is crucial. Common pests include mealybugs, spider mites, and aphids, which can be managed with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
