Due to the sensitive and breakable nature of our products, it's understandable that damages may occur despite our meticulous packaging methods. If you find that your plant or pot has arrived in a less than satisfactory condition, please reach out to us at hello@plantsforallseasons.co.uk within a month of your delivery date. When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. We are committed to resolving such issues by offering a refund or a replacement, depending on the availability of the item in question.
We are unable to accept returns that are not related to damage because plants are inherently perishable and delicate. It's also worth noting that the plant you receive may slightly differ from the images displayed on our website. Hoya sp. Padang Sidempuan is a rare and exotic species named after its origin, Padang Sidempuan, a region in North Sumatra, Indonesia. This epiphytic plant belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is known for its beautifully structured leaves and fragrant, waxy flowers. It thrives in warm, humid conditions, making it a desirable addition for Hoya enthusiasts and collectors.
The leaves of Hoya sp. Padang Sidempuan are thick, leathery, and slightly glossy, with prominent veins and a deep green hue. They have a slightly elongated shape and may develop reddish or purplish tones along the edges when exposed to bright indirect light. The semi-succulent nature of the leaves allows them to store moisture, making the plant relatively drought-tolerant.
This Hoya produces beautiful clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. The blooms are typically white, pale yellow, or soft pink, often featuring a darker centre. The waxy texture of the flowers helps retain moisture, and they emit a mild, sweet fragrance, particularly in the evening. Proper lighting and care can encourage multiple blooming cycles throughout the year.
As a climbing or trailing epiphyte, Hoya sp. Padang Sidempuan grows by twining around supports. It is well-suited for trellises, moss poles, or hanging baskets. The plant has a moderate growth rate and flourishes in warm, humid environments, producing new vines and foliage steadily.
Hoya sp. Padang Sidempuan thrives in bright, indirect light. Excessive direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light may hinder growth and flowering. If grown indoors, an east- or west-facing window is ideal. Some gentle morning sun can enhance leaf coloration and promote blooming, but harsh afternoon sun should be avoided.
This species prefers warm temperatures ranging from 18–30°C (65–86°F). It is not cold-tolerant and should always be kept above 10°C (50°F). High humidity (above 60%) is beneficial, though it can adapt to moderate humidity levels. If indoor air is dry, misting or using a humidifier will help maintain optimal conditions.
Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. The plant prefers to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months when growth slows. Always use room-temperature, non-chlorinated water to avoid shocking the roots.
A well-draining, aerated mix is essential for Hoya sp. Padang Sidempuan. A suitable mix includes orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir or peat moss, and a small amount of charcoal for drainage. This mix prevents excess moisture retention and supports healthy root development.
Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). A fertiliser with higher phosphorus content can be used to encourage flowering. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Repot every 2-3 years or when the roots outgrow the pot. Choose a container with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture retention. A terracotta or breathable plastic pot is ideal for maintaining healthy root conditions.
Pruning helps control the plant’s shape and encourages bushier growth. Avoid cutting off flower peduncles, as Hoyas bloom repeatedly from the same nodes. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
Propagation is best done through stem cuttings. Cuttings should include at least one node and can be rooted in water, sphagnum moss, or a well-draining mix. Rooting typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on temperature and humidity.
