When contacting us, please provide your order reference, alongside a photo clearly showing the damaged item and its packaging, including the delivery label. Hoya carnosa ‘Krinkle 8’ is a charming and distinctive cultivar of the classic Hoya carnosa, loved for its thick, dimpled leaves and easy-going nature. Native to Southeast Asia and Australia, this species belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is a popular choice for both beginners and collectors thanks to its resilience and beautiful, long-lasting foliage.
The ‘Krinkle 8’ name refers to the eight dimples or “krinkles” along each side of its glossy, succulent-like leaves. The deep green foliage grows on slender trailing vines that can extend several metres over time, producing a lush, cascading effect. When mature, it rewards growers with clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink and cream, each with a small red centre and a delightful honey scent.
Compact, architectural, and incredibly low-maintenance, Hoya carnosa ‘Krinkle 8’ makes a perfect hanging plant or shelf display, adding both greenery and texture to modern interiors.
Thrives in bright, indirect light, though it can tolerate a few hours of gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little will slow growth and reduce flowering. A bright room or filtered window is ideal.
Allow the top 3–4 cm of the soil to dry before watering. Like other Hoyas, ‘Krinkle 8’ stores moisture in its thick leaves and prefers to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring any excess drains away. In winter, reduce watering frequency as the plant enters a slower growth phase.
Temperature: Best kept between 18–28°C. Protect from draughts and cold snaps below 15°C.
Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity but grows best at 50–70%. Increase humidity with light misting, a pebble tray, or by grouping with other tropical plants.
Use a free-draining, airy potting mix — a blend of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or peat-free compost works perfectly. Hoyas dislike heavy, water-retentive soil. A slightly root-bound plant is more likely to bloom, so avoid frequent repotting; every 2–3 years is sufficient.
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser or one formulated for flowering houseplants. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter. A mild fertiliser high in phosphorus can promote more abundant blooms.
Trim vines lightly to control shape and encourage branching. Never remove the peduncles (flower spurs) after blooming, as future flowers will reappear from the same points. Clean leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and restore their glossy shine.
A moderate to fast-growing trailing plant that can reach 1–2 metres in length under good conditions. As it matures, Hoya carnosa ‘Krinkle 8’ develops thicker vines and produces regular clusters of waxy flowers that last several weeks.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
Wrinkled leaves: Underwatering or prolonged dryness.
No blooms: Insufficient light or cutting flower spurs.
Pests: Occasionally attracts mealybugs or aphids — treat promptly with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Hoya carnosa is one of the most classic and reliable species in the Hoya family, first cultivated in the early 19th century and still beloved for its ease of care. The ‘Krinkle 8’ cultivar stands out for its distinctive leaf texture and compact growth, offering a playful twist on the traditional form.
As with all Hoyas, this plant is excellent for air purification, helping to remove indoor pollutants and promote a healthier home environment. It’s also long-lived, capable of thriving for decades with minimal care — a true heirloom plant that grows more beautiful with age.
